Makeup Artist/Stylist/Founder

Industry: Beauty

Home Base: Stellenbosch, South Africa

What is your passion?

My passion is to help people awake their passion and to push them to follow their dreams.

What lead you to this point in your life?

I’ve worked very hard to be able to be where I am in my life today. I have traveled the world and I also studied abroad, this has definitely helped me get to this point in my life today.

What did you study?

I have studied Makeup and Styling at the London College of fashion, after that I did photography at Stellenbosch University.

What did you sacrifice to follow your dreams?

I’ve worked mostly weekend and holidays. This has caused my time that I have spent with my family and loved ones to be very limited.

What do you love about what you do?

Being able to be there on someone’s special day and always guiding and helping people to start their new journey as a Makeup artist.

What advice do you have for girls trying to follow their dreams?

Don’t think too much, just do. Grab every opportunity given to you and work hard! Ask questions, and always be on time.

Lastly, always steal with your eyes, you can never be over qualified.

What is the most important thing you have learnt?

Be real.

Don’t burn bridges.

Don’t try and please everyone.

What do you think being a #Girlboss means?

Being able to make a difference and also not to show people what you can do it, but rather show yourself that you can do it.

Where do you go for inspiration?

In my car, listening to gospel music, that’s my ‘me time’.

What excited you about your life?

To see how I have planted the seed and to see how it grows (referring to my students).

What is the best thing about your day?

Being in charge of my own dream.

What challenges have you had to overcome?

I have made so many mistakes while growing up. I started my business at age 21, so you can only imagine. But because I have learnt from all my mistakes at a very young age I now feel and can say that I am older and wiser.

What is your support system?

This is actually a deeper answer. I have found that your biggest support system is actually yourself.

You have to be the one to believe in your choices and understand your goals.

But of course my family and friends are also there to support me.

What is the ‘recipe’ for success?

Be crazy enough to believe that big dreams do come true and be fierce every step of the way.

What is next for you?

Starting a Lisa Brown Franchise in South Africa. That is next on my ‘Goals list’.
